Exports of Fresh D'Agen Plums from Chile: Data by Season and Destination T22-T26

Fresh D'Agen Plum: Chile's Export Performance by Season

In addition to processed dried plums, Chile exports significant volumes of Fresh D'Agen Plum, the base variety for the dried plum industry. The data presented by Ranco Americas At the 13th Dried Plum Expo, they offer a detailed view of the evolution of these exports over the last five seasons and the distribution by destination market, with China overwhelmingly dominating.

Evolution by Season: From T22 to T26

Chilean exports of fresh D'Agen plums have shown volatility characteristic of agricultural production, with the 2023/24 season (T24) marking a historical peak:

SeasonExport Volume (Tons)Variation
T22 (2021/22)57.210
T23 (2022/23)55.024-4%
T24 (2023/24)72.537+32%
T25 (2024/25)47.540-34%
T26 (2025/26)49.387+4%

Season T24 stands out as an exceptional year, with almost 72,600 tons exported, a record high for the period analyzed. The subsequent decline in T25 is mainly due to weather factors that affected yields, while T26 shows a moderate recovery that points towards a stabilization of volume in the 49,000-50,000 ton range.

Distribution by Destination: Asia Is Everything

The distribution of exports by destination in the 2025/26 season reveals an extraordinary concentration in the Asian market:

China: The 96% of Destiny

The most striking fact is that China receives 96% of all shipments of fresh D'Agen plums from Chile. This extreme concentration in a single market is both a commercial strength and a strategic risk factor. Of that volume shipped to China, the 5% is transported by air, equivalent to approximately 2,300 tons, reflecting the willingness of certain segments of the Chinese market to pay a premium for the freshest product.

Taiwan's Growth: The Fruit Fly as a Factor

One of the most interesting facts of the season is the 153% growth in exports to Taiwan, which went from 453 to 1,147 tons. This jump is not accidental: it is directly related to phytosanitary restrictions due to the fruit fly that have limited the entry of products from other origins into the Taiwanese market, opening a window of opportunity for Chilean plums, which comply with the strict entry protocols required by the Taiwanese authorities.

Signs of Diversification: US and Europe Grow

Although the volumes are still small, the growth of USA (+67%) y Europe (+88%) The emergence of new destinations for fresh Chilean D'Agen plums is a positive sign of diversification. These markets, with consumers willing to pay premium prices for differentiated products with documented traceability, represent a strategic development opportunity to reduce dependence on China and build long-term business relationships with high-value buyers.
